PokerStars Pros
Many people started with poker by watching the real stars of poker on television. Be you an avid player or a fan, you have seen some of the most famous players in the world either in commercials for poker rooms, on poker shows like High Stakes Poker, or during the World Series of Poker on ESPN. They are usually sporting logos from the online poker site that sponsors them. Many of them are sponsored in one way or another with a major poker room, but only the best of the best get to call PokerStars.net their home.
PokerStars’ main stable of players consists of some of the biggest names in the game, including several of the most recent World Series of Poker Main Event winners. Included in this list are Joe Cada (screen name jcada99), 2009 WSOP Main Event Champ, as well as 2003 Main Event Champ, Chris Moneymaker, who went from complete unknown to poker sensation overnight. Other World Champions include Greg “fossilMan” Raymer, Peter “PeteEastgate” Eastgate, and Joe Hachem, who uses the screen name JoeHachem. Clearly, PokerStars looks for the best players in the world to sign as pros.
Two of the most popular players on PokerStars roster have plenty of WSOP bracelets, but no Main Event titles. Perhaps you’ve heard of a guy named Barry Greenstein? Barry is a true legend in the poker world. He’s a staple at high stakes cash games on and off television as well as tournaments around the world. You can find him on PokerStars under the name barryg1, usually playing larger buy-in tournaments.
Another Team PokerStars Pro member that needs no introduction is Daniel Negreanu. Until Phil Ivey’s amazing run this past year at the World Series of Poker, Daniel was the all time tournament money leader. He often plays in televised events, no matter if it’s a cash game or tournament. Recently he’s been seen dabbling in high stakes cash games on Poker Stars under his famous screen name KidPoker, which he doesn’t usually play (he usually sticks to tournaments). However, there’s little doubt that he is one of the greatest players in the world and probably one of the most recognizable faces in poker today.
As if these players were not enough, the list of great players continues. Here are a few more names that choose to play exclusively on PokerStars.
If you follow online tournaments at all then you will definitely know the name ElkY. Bertrand Grospellier has definitely made a name for himself as someone to fear in every tournament he plays (and he plays in a lot). Whether live or on PokerStars, other players have to respect what ElkY has accomplished.
PokerStars isn’t an all-boys club either. If you have ever sat at a table with LadyMaven, then you had your chance to chat with Vanessa Rousso. Don’t stare though, by the time you look down you’ll find yourself a short-stack. Vanessa is really a great player. She put her skills on display once again when she won the 2009 NBC National Heads Up Poker Championship by besting a field of 64 of the greatest No-Limit Hold’em players in the world These weren’t chumps either. She “only” beat Doyle Brunson, Phil Ivey, Paul Wasicka, Daniel Negreanu, Bertrand Grospellier and Huck Seed, in that order, on her way to winning the title.
Humberto Brenes and Hevad “RaiNKhaN” Khan are two other PokerStars Pros who have made a name for themselves in the live tournament circuit. Both have made pretty loud impressions during televised events. They definitely back up their statements with some great play though. Brenes has won millions in live tournaments and is very well respected among his fellow poker players. In the earlier days of online poker, Khan was accused of being a poker bot and was forced to make a now famous (You Tube) video of himself playing 20 tournaments simultaneously.
Poker Stars.com is considered by some to be one of the best online poker rooms on the globe and their team of pros proves that they fit that title. Whether you are online or watching poker on tv, watchout for the PokerStars Pro Team. If you still are not sure which ones they are, just look for the guys with the deepest stacks. Good you’re watching a PokerStars Pro.
